John RayInfant School

Design Technology

At John Ray Infant School through the subject of Design and Technology we encourage our children to be creative thinkers, designers and problem solvers.

Design and Technology is a way of learning about the world around them and links with the whole curriculum especially Science, ICT and Art.

Teachers at John Ray Infants have designed a fun curriculum that enables children to take part in a broad range of practical activities concerned with;

* Planning and designing

* Making and testing

* Evaluating

Much of the activities will be completed through the school’s topic based approach to learning. Our curriculum includes activities that involve designing, making, cooking and sewing.

In Foundation Stage the children will use the indoor and outdoor classrooms to develop their designing and making skills. They learn how to handle different tools safely.

This continues into KS1 where we develop the children’s skills further by engaging them in the process of planning and evaluating their work.
